Oh yeah, the stuff I made was absolutely awful. But if I hadn't made it, I wouldn't be where I am today! It's funny because some of my stories have gotten hits on AO3 in the last few days and I'm like... what are you people doing here???
No place is perfect, but we can always try to be better. We only got AO3 because people looked at FFn and said "yanno, these things kind of suck, actually." We can't grow if we don't know what to fix. And now we aren't in any danger of getting a Cease and Desist from Anne Rice without the OTW's lawyers looking at it first (I know she's dead now, but if anyone could send C&Ds from beyond the grave, it would be her.)
That being said, AO3's code is actually open source, so theoretically anyone can make a clone of it. But without owning the server space, it can't be anything more than a niche. Web servers that can host several decades worth of stories aren't exactly cheap and you'd need to dedicate a large amount of space to them.
