Huh. I wasn't aware of that. That's really weird. (It also shows how long it's been since I was on FFN, because I have definitely copied a fic from there.) But you can still do a right click, then 'save page as' if you just want a backup.
And if you want to go the long, pain in the ass route, you can view the page source and copy the HTML.
